CWC League 2 on Hold as Travel Disruptions Delay Nepal Tri-Series with UAE and Oman

The tri-nation series under the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 scheduled to begin on March 10 in Kathmandu has been postponed until further notice. The decision has been taken due to the current situation in the Middle East and the closure of parts of regional airspace.
The series was to feature Nepal, UAE and Oman as part of the qualification pathway for the ICC Cricket World Cup. Revised dates are expected to be announced after further discussions between the participating boards and the ICC.

Travel Disruptions Cited
Flight operations through several Middle East transit hubs have been disrupted following recent regional tensions. As a result, travel arrangements for the UAE squad have been affected.
According to The National News an Emirates Cricket Board spokesperson stated that the situation is being monitored closely and communication is ongoing with series organisers. Player safety and official travel guidance are being prioritised.
The UAE team had been scheduled to travel to Kathmandu on March 6. Confirmation of new travel plans has not yet been provided.
Importance of the Series
The League 2 tri-series forms a crucial part of the ODI qualification structure for the 2027 World Cup. Ranking points from each series contribute directly to the pathway towards global qualification.
Matches had been scheduled in Kathmandu and Mulpani between March 10 and March 20. The series would have included multiple fixtures between Nepal, UAE and Oman under the round robin format.
Wider Impact on International Cricket
Airspace restrictions in the region have also affected team movements after the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in India. Travel routes through Gulf transit points have been limited which has caused logistical challenges for several international squads.
Nepal Preparations Affected
The Cricket Association of Nepal had already confirmed its squad of Camp List for the League 2 fixtures. Preparations had been completed and players were in training for the upcoming home series.

The postponement has temporarily halted Nepal’s competitive momentum in the 50 over format. The series had been viewed as an important opportunity to strengthen their position in the League 2 standings.
Further updates are expected once travel conditions are clarified and a new schedule is finalised.
