NPL 2026 playoff format explained: four teams, three routes to the final

Finishing in the top two is worth a second chance. How Qualifier 1, the Eliminator and Qualifier 2 decide the finalists.

After 28 league matches, the top four teams on the NPL points table go through to the playoffs. A win is worth two points, and a no-result or abandoned match one point each. Teams level on points are separated by net run rate.

Qualifier 1 — 17 November

First plays second. The winner goes straight to the final. The loser gets another chance in Qualifier 2.

Eliminator — 18 November

Third plays fourth, and the loser is out.

Qualifier 2 — 19 November

The loser of Qualifier 1 plays the winner of the Eliminator for the second place in the final.

Final — 21 November

Last season showed why the top two matters, and also that it isn't everything: Lumbini Lions won the 2025 title from the Eliminator, winning three knockout games in a row.
